Just found my 4 yr. old, Maytag 26.0 cu side by side refrigerator has shut down and isn’t chilling! What is your schedule for Saturday or first available appliance repair service?

The dishwasher (Whirlpool) will not stay running. I push the door in and it starts to run, but then stops... I suspect it is the locking mechanism - needs to be adjusted or replaced. Thanks

To prevent the need for washer and dryer repairs, conduct regular maintenance of your dryers, and washing machines to keep them running properly. Check the rubber hose of your washing machine periodically, and look for wearing and tearing. There can be cracks in the hose which can result in leakage and even flooding. Replace the washing machine hose at least once in 5 years. You can expect your timers, switches, agitators, motor bearings and other components to wear out over a period of time. Avoid the need for regular dryer repairs by keeping the unit clean, and insuring proper venting. Get your vent hose cleaned at least once a year by a professional dryer repair man. Most dryer repairs that you can do at home, tend to involve checking to see if the power or the gas supply is turned on.
If your dryer doesn't tumble or makes a lot of noise, check the interior of the drum to see if there are any objects that have become loose. A noisy dryer can also be caused by a worn out drum belt or motor bearings, a defective support roller or a faulty idler pulley. If the dryer continues to run, but there is no tumbling, there may be a fault with the belt, motor or switch. Call a dryer repair service immediately. If you can smell natural gas close to the dryer, don't turn on any electrical switches or light matches. Shut off the gas valve, and open all doors and windows to let the smell of gas out. Turn off the main gas supply connection, and then call your gas supplier from outside the house. If your drier takes long to dry, then it could be a blockage of the dryer vent. Clean the lint trap, and make sure that the dryer isn't located too close to the valve. The air duct should have enough space, and there should be no blockages in its path.
Washing machines can get overloaded which causes the motor to stop in the middle of the cycle. Simply remove a few pieces of clothing, and restart the machine. If the washer doesn't seem to spin, balance the load of clothes in the tub. Otherwise, check if the plastic tab on the lid switch is broken. If it is, get it replaced by a washing machine repair professional. Spinning problems can also result because of broken or worn out belts. If you have good DIY skills, you can tighten the belt or replace it yourself. Otherwise call an experienced washing machine repair person.
